It is important to remember that play isn’t just sports and physical activities; it’s arts and cultural activities too. Play is anything that sparks creativity. Drama, theatre and performing arts programs are a few examples of cultural play.
Benefits of Drama, Theatre and Performing Arts Programs
There is a lot of established research about the positive influences that drama, theatre and the performing arts programs offer, especially for young people. Theatre programs support and encourage cooperative group dynamics and students learn to collaborate with people of all ages who come from all backgrounds. Drama helps individuals to learn to get in touch with a character’s feeling and thoughts, and this can give kids an understanding of empathy and how to effectively communicate their feelings. Participating in theatre arts programs can also help to develop a healthy appreciation of culture and the arts.
